The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sent a letter of invitation to out of favor winger Henry Onyekuru and four others to be a part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Coach Gernot Rohr submitted his list of players to the NFF and it was to be released yesterday but the coronavirus protocols in the United Kingdom means as many as seven players won’t be able to make the away trip to Cape Verde.

Cape Verde is on the UK red list and visitors arriving from the country will need to quarantine for ten days before getting permission to go on with their normal lives.

It means regular players like Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi won’t be able to honour the away tie.

However they are free to play in the home game on the 3rd of September against Liberia, but it has forced the NFF into making contacts with players from countries where travellers from Cape Verde won’t require quarantine upon return.

It means extra players will now be called up to make up for their expected departure after the first game as Nigeria aim to start the qualifiers on a high targeting two wins from their first two games.

OwnGoalNigeria.com exclusively gathered that team secretary of the Super Eagles Dayo Enebi will make contacts with clubs over releasing their players considering the invitation is late.
