Kevin Akpoguma has hit back at reports in some German media where it was said that he desperately jumped at the chance of playing for Nigeria at senior level.
Akpoguma represented Germany at several levels and was at a time captain of the U20 team but three months ago he switched allegiance to Nigeria and he has four caps to his name already.
It appears his decision didn’t go down well with some section of the media in Germany with suggestions that he could have waited a bit like Felix Uduokhai because it’s this season that he has stamped his feet as a regular for Hoffenheim.
So far he has played all the games for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and he is for the first time a regular in the top division same as Uduokhai who was invited for the last round of international games after impressing for Augsburg. Although he didn’t get to play.
“ No way. I made the decision at a time I believe suits me and my career. Nigeria wanted me the most and I am very happy playing for the Super Eagles. No regret not waiting for Germany. That’s in the past to me”, he said .
