Almeria forward Sadiq Umar says he has done enough to be given a chance to fight for a spot in the senior national team of Nigeria.
Last season, the lanky forward scored 17 goals and also had 17 assists for Partizan Belgrade and he scored another six in team games this season before moving to Almeria.
When he joined Almeria they were languishing in the lower rung of the table but right now they are pushing for a LaLiga promotion spot with Sadiq playing his role so far in their quest.
Sadiq has scored four goals in 14 games with two assists and more importantly he has won four penalties that his helped lifted his side to wins in games.
Speaking on getting a chance with the senior national team of Nigeria, Sadiq said all he needs is an invitation to show his worth to the coaches and Nigerians “ I can only play if I am called up”, Sadiq told Owngoalnigeria.com.
“ Last time I played for the national team I was top scorer for the U23 at the Rio Olympics. In 2018 I had a very good second half of the season many think I will be called up to fight for a spot in the World Cup team but it didn’t happen.
“ While I was in Serbia , I read where the coach Gernot Rohr said he is watching me closely and I ended the season with 17 goals and 17 assists. Now I’m at Almeria and doing same. I hope I get the chance soon but I’m only 23 so I still have some time if you ask me”.
