Former England youth international Ademola Lookman is in the final stage of his application for switch of allegiance from England to Nigeria, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Lookman filed his papers last year and bar any hitches he should be cleared to play for Nigeria before the end of the year as the process is a bit lengthy with players from England.
He represented England from U19 to U21 level with many tipping him to break into the senior team before his form tailed off at Everton resulting in his loan move to RB Leipzig which was made permanent last summer.
With his switch of allegiance procedure expected to be completed, the 22 year old will likely not get the chance to play for Nigeria at least for now unless his form at RB Leipzig picks up as he has struggled to nail a spot in the team.
So far he has played just 8 games since the start of the season and his poor form has even led to talks that he could be shipped out on loan. He can however turn it around following the resumption of the Bundesliga after the lockdown imposed on Germany due to the novel coronavirus.
RB Leipzig will be up against Freiburg and a strong showing in their first game upon resumption will no doubt boost his chances of forcing his way into the plans of coach Julian Nagelsmann only then can he be considered for a spot in the Super Eagles.
