Cyriel Dessers who is currently among the top scorers in the Dutch Eredivisie has once again reaffirmed his desire to represent Nigeria at senior level despite playing for Belgium at U21 level, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The 24 year old who has five goals in nine league games for Heracles Almelo has Nigerian roots and has always associated with the Super Eagles of Nigeria during games and even tournament.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, a member of his management team Stirr said in 2017, while at NAC Breda he granted an interview to this portal where he made it known that he is open to representing Nigeria. He further said the desire is still the same.
According to his management team, he sees a better international future with Nigeria than with Belgium and if called up by the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr he will jump at the chance even if he receives a call from Belgium at the same time.
” It’s not a secret in anyway. In Belgium it’s known that Dessers want to play for Nigeria. He will snub a call up to play for Belgium if he receives that of Nigeria around same time, this much I know. However he has not been contacted by anybody from the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) “.
