The Super Eagles of Nigeria have had six different training session since the start of preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which will take place in Egypt later this year.
Owngoalnigeria.com runs the rule on the defenders of the team and how they’ve performed so far in the sessions witnessed by our correspondent.
Jamilu Collins – He has banished the ghost of Elderson Echjiele in the Super Eagles by making the left back slot his own. So far he has looked the part with his deliveries from crosses, confidence on the ball and assured in tackles.
Ola Aina – He only returned to training today after missing two sessions but his class is there for all to see. Didn’t lose a single duel, picked out his man with ease and his awareness appears to have increased a bit probably due to the run of games he had in Italy where he spent the season on loan at Torino from Chelsea.
Chidozie Awaziem – A bit too hard when going into tackles but solid with the ball at his feet. He is about the best in aerial duels and made life difficult for the forwards who were up against him during the session.
Leon Balogun – His calm and confidence on the ball is second to none. Reads and intercept play with ease and also like to pass from the back where he has excelled so far. Missed today’s session but generally he is among the top performers in the team.
Semi Ajayi – Solid in aerial duels but not so convincing with the ball at his feet. Guilty of giving away possession cheaply, he has also been found wanting when it comes to making tackles but his reading of play and interceptions has been spot on.
