Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder John Ogu is now a free player after deciding against renewing his contract with Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Ogu spent five years with the Israeli side but turn down the chance to extend his stay in the country with his contract set to run out in the summer.
Expected to represent Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the 31 year old was offered fresh terms by Hapoel Be’er Sheva but a combination of Israeli laws and wages made him opt against extending his stay at the club.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva offered him a fresh two year deal with the option of another year but the wage proposed in the deal led to the collapse, no thanks to Israeli law which treat foreigners after five years as citizens who should pay tax.
The terms of the deal offered by Be’er Sheva will see him earn same amount like he is earning now after tax even though the team increased his wage to meet up with the issue of tax that wasn’t there in his previous deal.
He decided against extending the deal, hence he will leave in the summer with talks already advanced with Turkish side Trabzonspor although a deal is far from happening yet.
