Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is in the running to be voted the player of the year at Italian Serie A side Udinese after an impressive first season at the club, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
Ekong made the switch to Udinese from Turkish side Trabzonspor and immediately stamped his authority in the team as one of the first names on the team sheet during games.
The 25 year old has played 34 games in the Serie A and contributed to the success they had in beating the drop to the Serie B as the games he missed were due to a knock that kept him out for two weeks.
Only the duo of Rodrigo de Paul and Jens Larsen played more games than the Nigerian international at the club this season, hence they are also in the race to be crowned the club’s player of the year.
