Cyprus top division side Anorthosis Famagusta have appealed the red card shown to their Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho in their 3-0 win over Alki Oroklinis in the relegation playoff.
Uzoho was sent off for making the middle finger gesture to fans of Alki who according to the goalkeeper subjected him to racial insults after his team took a 2-0 lead.
The game was Uzoho’s first game after his debut as he was suspended from playing in the league for using a fake medical certificate to play following his loan move from Spanish second division side Deportivo La Coruna.
An independent referee has assessed the incident that led to his sending off and has ruled that the Nigerian didn’t do any wrong to warrant a straight red card and from all indication the red card could be rescinded.
It has been a year of mix bags for the shot stopper who kept goal for Nigeria at the World Cup with his loan spell at Elche cancelled after a string of poor performances during the first half of the season.
