Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has slammed the door on players hoping to make the squad of the Nigerian team to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which will take place in Egypt.
Nigeria got their preparations underway with a 1-0 win over visiting Egypt in a friendly game played in Asaba on Tuesday with Rohr sticking to more of the same players he has been using since his appointment as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria three years ago.
With the Africa Cup of Nations set to begin in June and with just one window left to try out new players, Rohr has ruled out calling up fresh players but insist that scouting will still be ongoing in his bid to unearth and cap talented Nigerian players.
The coach while speaking on the chances of calling up new players to shore up some areas of the team refuse to guarantee players hoping to make his team the chance to stake a claim for a spot in his AFCON 2019 squad.

“For the AFCON, we won’t invite new players to the team but we will keep scouting. We have quality in all departments, we must start working on how to use them well”, Rohr said after the win over Egypt on Tuesday.
