The chance to make the Super Eagles of Nigeria squad to the next Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt later this year has been handed to Wolfsburg defender Felix Uduokhai who is eligible to play for Nigeria despite representing Germany at youth level.
Franco-German coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr tried luring the defender to commit to the Nigerian team ahead of the World Cup but the defender turned down the offer to concentrate on his career with the German team.
He is still representing Germany at youth level but the Rohr while speaking on players who are not in his team now but could yet made the squad for the 2019 AFCON listed Uduokhai among the players he could try out before the tournament.
“We are looking at Efe Ambrose, Maduka Okoye, Felix Uduokhai & a host of other players with a view to seeing them in the colours of Nigeria. If they perform better than those we already have, they have a chance of being included in the final (AFCON) preparation”, the coach said.
This season the 21 year old has played 10 Bundesliga and one cup game for Wolfsburg and also five games for the U21s of Germany with his last game for the team where he has five caps coming in the 2-2 draw against France which he was on the pitch for 27 minutes.
