On loan FC Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem says he will jump at the chance of representing Nigeria U23 again if invited by the coach after starring in their 4-0 win over Libya in the second leg of their U23 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers game.
Awaziem played a pivotal role in helping the U23 overturn a 0-2 deficit suffered in the first leg with a near faultless performance following his secondment to the team by coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr.
Despite his status as a senior national team player for two years, the 21 year old speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com after the game said he won’t mind playing for the team in their next game which will be against the winner of the tie between Kenya and Sudan.
“First of all I’m happy that we won by the margin we need to progress to the next round of the qualifiers. Secondly it was nice to be involved with the U23. I will gladly accept to play for them again if called up for their next game”, the Rizespor defender told Owngoalnigeria.com.
Speaking on the game, Awaziem said they had to first of all ensure that they didn’t concede before going for the goals which secured their progress to the next round of qualifiers.
” As much as scoring is important, not conceding is also very important in a game like this. Fortunately for us we did well at both ends and got the result our performance deserve “.
