A lot has been said about the moves made by Nigerian players in the recently concluded summer transfer window with many Nigerian players moving to top teams as opposed to previous transfer windows.

One team in Nigeria will however smile to the bank as they are due to earn some sort of payment in the form of training and compensation grant following the transfer of five players involved with them in the past.

In 2001 world soccer governing body FIFA introduced new Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. Payment of training compensation was the main highlight and it is payable when a player signs his first professional contract and each time a professional is transferred between club

Five graduates from famous Jos based football Academy GBS were among the numerous Nigerian players to change clubs this summer with a further three also making moves that could turn into big money in the coming future either during or on expiry of his contract, untill the end of the season of his 23rd birthday.

In practice, it is payable for training as from the season of the player’s 12th birthday and calculated on the basis of the training cost of the new club, taking into account that each association divided it’s clubs into different categories usually from one to four.

The training cost is then multiplied by their number of years with their former clubs which means GBS will smile to the bank as they are due such payment for their players involved in transfers this summer.

Emeka Umeh, Peter Eneji and Yamen Tenton all graduates of the Academy moved to Trencin of Slovakia, while fellow graduates Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu, Hillary Gong and Philip Azango all made big money move.

It’s probably the best transfer window ever for a grassroot team in the history of Nigerian football because never before has a Nigerian football academy get involved in a transfer window like GBS this summer.
