Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem was once again handed a start by coach Sergio Conceicao as they hold Newcastle United to a 0-0 in a pre season friendly.
Awaziem paired new boy Chancel Mbemba in the heart of the defence for FC Porto and held his own against the forward line of Newcastle United to help his team to a clean sheet.
Since returning back to Porto from French Ligue 1 side Nantes, Awaziem who made Nigeria’s squad to the World Cup but didn’t get to play in their three group games before the were eliminated has been a regular in pre season so far.
A sign that he will be useful to the team when the season begins was provided by the coach who handed him the vacant jersey number 5 at the club, which was last worn by Marcano who is now at Serie A side Roma.
