The name Shawn Adeoye isn’t one that rings a bell when discussing players who are sure to make their senior national team debut for Nigeria in the coming future but the 16 year old defender has put himself in the spotlight.
Since the start of pre season, the tough tackling central defender who is nicknamed ‘ New Ndidi’ at the Belgium side Genk, where Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi started his career has remained a permanent stay with the first team in test games.
Promoted from the U15 of the club to the main team just before the start of pre season training, he was part of the team that lifted the Belgium Youth Cup with a well deserved win over Club Brugge in the final.
Speaking on the nickname ‘New Ndidi ‘, Adewoye admitted similarities in his style of play with that of the Super Eagles Star and hopes to follow his footsteps although he didn’t comment on his international future.

Eligible to represent Nigeria and also Belgium, he said his main focus is on breaking into the first team set up at Genk, when the season begins even though he is just 16 years old.
“Yes, he is certainly an example for me.” Adeoye told the KRC Genk Youth official site
“It is a dream to be able to take the same route.”
“He has become a very good player in two years time.”
“Actually, we do have some common characteristics. For example, I am also strong in the 1 against 1 duel in defense.”
“In addition, my jumping power is also quite good and I always try to build up well. My left foot is a work point and maybe I should also apply a bit more to the field. ”
