Iceland Coach Remains Modest- We’re Not Better Than Nigeria
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Coach of the national team of Iceland Heimir Hallgrimsson says his team are not of the opinion that they are better than Nigeria ahead of their clash against the Super Eagles on Friday.

Iceland held World Cup 2018 favourites Argentina to a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture, while Nigeria were beaten 0-2 by Croatia but the coach insist that the West Africans are no push over despite the loss.

Both teams will meet in their second group game and according to Hallgrimsson even though a draw will be okay to keep their hope of progressing to the round of 16 alive, they will approach the tie with the aim of winning it.

The coach made this known during a press conference shortly before their training session today. He also said they will approach the game ‎same way they did against Argentina as it is a formula that has worked for them.

“We look at everything with the mindset that we have found a formula that works for us today. And we try to get everybody to follow it. We’ve tried to find what kind of playing style, what kind of characteristics this Icelandic team needs to have, and what identity an Icelandic national player needs to have. And this is the way for Iceland to be successful.”

“We are not of the opinion that we are at all better than Nigeria. We know our strengths, and need to make the best of them,” Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson told FIFA TV recently.
