It appears goal scoring could be a problem for the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of their campaign at the 2018 World Cup in Russia with only Odion Ighalo as the recognised striker in the team.

Coach Gernot Rohr has stuck with the Chanchung Yatai forward as his main man in attack in his preferred 4-3-3 formation, although the duo of Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho have also featured in same role.

The need to have another proper striker who can play with his back to goal is why Owngoalnigeria.com Daniel Martins have suggested five names who could help ease the worries of soccer loving Nigerians when the World Cup gets underway in June.

Brown Ideye– Performed admirably well for Nigeria in their first World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Zambia in Ndola. However a dispute at his Chinese side Tianjin Teda which led to his demotion to the Reserves saw him lost his place in the team.

Now at Spanish LaLiga relegation bound outfit Malaga, his strength and ability to play with his back to goal has dominated discussions in Spain, and he will no doubt compliment the options available to Rohr, If he is recalled.

Sadiq Umar – Nicknamed Jololo, the giant Roma forward who had an unhappy time at Italian Serie A side Torino during the first half of this season, has returned to the form that once saw him relegated Edin Dzeko to the bench at Roma.

Strong, quick and skillful, his presence have turned around the fortunes of modest Dutch side NAC Breda with three goals and four assists to his name in just six games, since his loan move in January.

So far he has made the team of the week thrice in six games, and his overall showing means he can do a job for the Super Eagles if given the chance by coach Gernot Rohr.

Paul Onuachu – Standing at an impressive height of over six feet tall. The FC Midtjylland forward has been widely regarded as one of the most feared forward in the Danish league, since he came to the limelight two seasons ago, after a couple of loan spells away from the club.

Still only 23, his giant frame could come handy for the Super Eagles especially if they want to play the 4-1-4-1 formation which coach Gernot Rohr used against Poland six days ago.

Fanendo Adi – The goal king of the MLS didn’t do enough to convince coach Samson Siasia when he was first invited to the team in 2016. His form on the domestic scene is however same as it was, if not even better than when he was first invited two years ago.

Strong and deadly in the air, he has the ability to bring others into play with his giant frame acting as a shield to hold off defenders. He has already started the season on a high with an assist for Portland Timbers in their first game of the MLS season.

Obafemi Martins – Still going strong in China for Shanghai Greenland Shenhua at the age of 33, same country where the likes of Carlos Tevez, Jackson Martinez and others have failed to shine in recent times.

Very quick and deadly in the box. His pace and ability to finish off chances at a rate better than the present crop of Super Eagles forwards, should no doubt put him in the frame for a call up to the team.
