Red hot Kwara United striker Stephen Alfred says he is confident he will clinch the top scorer award in the Nigeria Professional Football League after scoring five goals in the first nine games of the season.

Presently only Junior Lokosa of Kano Pillars with 8 goals has more ‎goals than the 18 year old who is in his debut season in the Nigeria Professional Football League following his move from Nigeria National League side Taraba United.

The Kaduna born forward who was discovered by former Nigeria League veteran midfielder Chuba Shedrack told Owngoalnigeria.com, that his primary aim is to ens‎ure that Kwara United maintain a consistent run of good form to improve their position on the log standings.

He however said he is confident he will be able to finish as top scorer due to the fine relationship he enjoys with his teammates. According to Stephen his teammates are largely responsible for his recent run of form that has seen him score three goals in his last two games.

” I’m not thinking about the top scorer award. My immediate aim is to help my team Kwara United maintain our current run, where we have picked up four points out of six in our last two games”, Stephen told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” That said I’m confident in the support of my teammates that I can win the top scorer award. Their support has taken me this close to the top scorer in the league. Hence it can also help me finish as top scorer”, he said.

Speaking on his future plans, he credit the work of coach John Obuh and said he hopes to make the next U20 team of Nigeria, ironically same team Obuh last coached internationally but are now under the tutelage of coach Paul Aigbogun.

” The plan is for me to get recognition at international level for Nigeria. I will no doubt get it if I keep on scoring, and my coach John Obuh has been very helpful as a former U20 coach. He keeps on telling us how we can become materials for the national team”.
