Coach of Dutch second division side MVV Maastricht has revealed why the club brought back Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali on loan, despite his struggles with top division side VVV Venlo.

Nwakali spent last season on loan at the club, and played 34 games with three goals to his name before moving to top division side VVV Venlo, but he failed to transform same form he showed for Maastricht at Venlo.

The 19 year old who is signed to Arsenal till the summer of 2021 had his loan deal interrupted by Arsenal, and subsequently the Gunners agreed a loan deal for him to continue his career growth with Maastricht.

Speaking on the reason why he was brought back, coach of Maastricht Ron Elsen revealed the Nigerian showed a lot of class during his time with them last season, and despite his struggles at VVV Venlo he still will add class to his team.

“Last season we have already seen that Kelechi is a multifunctional attacking midfielder, who has a nose for the ‘final pass’. He returns in an attacking and dominant way of playing, as MVV wants to use it”, he told the official website of MVV Maastricht.

“He can get away at ’10’, but also as a hanging wing attacker. At VVV Venlo he has also shown at Eredivisieevel that he can be of value for the team in which he acts. At MVV Maastricht, however, he can collect even more minutes of play.

“We know what we can and should expect from him. That has absolutely weighed in our decision to bring him back to Maastricht. ”
