The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has comfirmed the addition of 18 year Fortuna Dusseldorf ‎goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to the options available to him ahead of the World Cup.

Nigeria are having a mini crisis in the goalkeeping department of the team, no thanks to health issues concerning the first choice goalkeeper who is battling Leukaemia.

Rohr who is in Russia for tomorrow’s World Cup draw told Owngoalnigeria.com, that he will add Okoye to his pool of players next year when they play their friendly games.

” There’s another goalkeeper we have in our sight now. He plays with Fortuna Dusseldorf in Germany, Maduka Okoye, born in Germany but has agreed to play for Nigeria “, Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” We will look at him in the coming games to see if he will be able to push for a spot in the team we are preparing for the World Cup”.

Born in Germany to Nigerian parents Okoye is yet to keep goal for the first team of the second division team in Germany, and only made his debut for the U23 in October where he earned rare reviews.

Standing at an impressive height of almost 2 metres tall, he is set to become the third German born player to pledge allegiance to the Super Eagles , with Leon Balogun and Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee the other two.
