FC Porto will not be signing a replacement for Wolverhampton Wanderers bound midfielder Rueben Neves as Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu who is returning to the team after a loan spell at Vitoria Setubal will take his spot.

Neves is closing in on a £18m move to the English Championship side from the Portuguese giants, and Agu will take his spot in the team according to several informed sources at the club.

Agu has been on the books of since 2012 but injuries and fitness issues has denied him the chance to fulfil the potential that made the club snap him up when he was just 18 years old.

An injury which ruled him out of the entirety of the 2015/2016 season when he was on the verge of the first team robbed him off the chance to make an impression during their pre season training.

A loan spell at Belgium side Club Brugge didn’t quite work well as expected as he only managed to play just two games all season long, but he redeemed his status as a rising star with a strong showing for Vitoria Setubal last season.

He made 27 league appearances Setubal, a form which earned him fresh terms with FC Porto at the end of last season, and with Neves now set to depart the team, Agu will be expected to push for a spot when the team commence preparations ahead of next season.
