The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to break down a well organised South Africa defence in the first half of their AFCON 2019 Qualifiers game which ended 0-0.

Nigeria dominated possession and looked quite lively going forward with Moses Simon, Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho putting the backline of Bafana Bafana under pressure.

Etebo and Onazi both came close to scoring for Nigeria but the best chance of the half fell to the visitors who almost took the lead if not for the woodwork which rescued Nigeria with goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi beaten.

While the Super Eagles were on top for large spell of the first 45 minutes some players like Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi and to some extent captain Eddy Onazi fail to properly assert themselves on proceedings during the course of the game.
