Contrary to reports that Manchester City teen star Kelechi Iheanacho is Nigeria’s highest earning player in England, Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that Mikel Obi is by far the highest paid Nigerian footballer in Europe.
Past reports has it that Iheanacho new deal is worth £85,000 a week, £10,000 more than what Mikel is currently earning at Chelsea. But recent research has it that the 19 year old Man City star is on a weekly wage of £10,000 a week but has a contract with incentives that means he earns almost twice the amount in a week.
However Mikel’s current earning of £75,000 a week is the highest among all Nigerian players in Europe, where Victor Moses comes next on a reported salary of £50,000 a week at Chelsea.
Alex Iwobi of Arsenal, Odion Ighalo at Watford and Emmanuel Amuneke of Turkish side Fenerbahce round up the top five for Nigerian players earning big money at their various team in Europe.
The title of the highest earning Nigerian player still remains with former Inter-Milan forward Obafemi Martins, who plays for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua where he currently earns £130,000 a week.
