Former West Ham United forward Emmanuel Emenike scored a brace to fire Fenerbahce to a 2-1 victory over Monaco, In the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian got the nod to start on the back of his fine pre season form, and the forward proved manager Vitor Pereira right with a goal in each half to cancel out Radamel Falcao leveler for Monaco.

Emenike who spent the second half of last season on loan to English Premiership side West Ham, fired Fenerbahce in front in the 39th minute profiting from a Simon Kjaer assist.

However his goal was cancelled out three minutes later by Colombian forward Radamel Falcao, who is back at Monaco after two failed loan spells at Manchester United and Chelsea.

29 year old Emenike had the last laugh when he struck what ended up as the winner for Fenerbahce with his and his team second of the game, three minutes after the half hour mark thanks to fine work from Gregory van der Wiel.

He was replaced after 71 minutes in a game where Super Eagles defender Elderson Echjiele was not listed for action by Monaco, with Coach Leonardo Jardim preferring Benjamin Mendy to the Nigerian.

Fenerbahce will in a week time travel to France for the return leg tie against Monaco where they will be aiming to defend their slim 2-1 win from today’s game.
