Scans have confirmed that Hull City defender Moses Odubajo who is reportedly set to be included in Nigeria’s squad when the race to World Cup 2018 begins in October will be out for six months due to an injury to hid ligaments.

Odubajo picked up the injury during Hull City pre season friendly game against Grimsby Town last week and the club confirmed he will meet with surgeons later this week to discuss the next step.

The 22 year old full back will undergo surgery in the coming days according to the club after which his rehabilitation will begin to determine when he will be ready to return to training but the club expect him to be out for six months.

“First and foremost, it’s desperately disappointing news for Moses,” said Tigers boss Steve Bruce.

“He was exceptional for us last season as we won promotion back to the Premier League and we expect him to be a top player for many years to come.

“I know how much he was looking forward to testing himself in the top-flight of English football and to now have to sit out the first half of the season is a big blow – both for him and for the Club.

“Looking at the positives, at least the injury is not at the same level as the one suffered by Robert Snodgrass at the start of the 2014/15 season and, as a result, we will look forward to seeing Moses return to training in the New Year”
