The Federal Goverment of Nigeria has said that it cannot afford hiring a coach for the Super Eagles and has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to stick to indigenous coaches due to paucity of funds.
According to various media reports the NFF are set to hire French man Paul Le Guen as coach for the Super Eagles with a salary reportedly in the region of $41,000 which is twice the amount earned by erstwhile coaches Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh.
The duo of Keshi and Oliseh left under a cloud with claims of unpaid wages, a situation which the Sport Minister says won’t be tolerated by a foreign coach if the NFF go ahead to appoint a foreign coach.
Sports Minister Solomon Dalung while addressing newsmen said unlike indigenous coaches, a foreign coach would not tolerate non payment of salaries.
“I’ve always maintained that if we cannot pay indigenous coaches, we still owe them some months of salaries, do we still go and look for a foreign coach and will he be able to tolerate us without salaries for some time more also that we may also be paying him in hard currency? So, it’s a fundamental contradiction to swallow easily.” He said.
