Super Eagles defender, Shehu Abdullahi was sent off in the 61st minute as Uniao Madeira went down 3-4 against Pacos de Ferreira.
Shehu picked up two yellow cards within a space of two minutes in the 59th and 61st minute with scores at 2-2 but his dismissal proved disastrous for his team as they conceded two more goal to lose the thrilling encounter 3-4 with Diogo Jota scoring a late winner for the visitors.
The game was the 23rd game the 23 year old has played this season with a goal to his name more worrisome the red card is the first of his career since moving out of Nigeria in 2015 when he joined Al-Qadsia of Kuwait.
He will subsequently miss Uniao de Madeira next game against Sporting Lisbon which they need at least a point to pull away from the drop zone as they are presently level on points with 15th place Boavista just three points behind Academica who are occupying the 17th spot on the 18th team league table in Portugal.
