Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa showed he is in top form ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2017 qualifiers later this month with a goal against FC Ufa in a cup game in Russia.

Musa who was heavily linked with a move to CSKA Moscow during the just concluded transfer window rounded up victory for his team by scoring the second goal in their 2-0 win over Ufa.

The goal was Musa’s 11th in all competition this season for CSKA Moscow but his first in the cup this season.

He scored in the 75th minute to kill off any hope of a late comeback by Ufa who had Super Eagles midfielder Sylvester Igboun in for 78 minutes.

However there was no debut for Ahmed Musa Super Eagles compatriot and teammate Aaron Samuel who was left on the bench for the entire duration of the game.

Samuel who recently joined the team from Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande was expected to make his debut but the tense nature of the game made coach Leonid Slutsky to leave him on the bench.

23 year old Musa is expected to lead Nigeria’s attack when they take on Egypt in an AFCON 2017 qualifiers first at home then later in Egypt.
