AS Trencin of Slovakia left full back Kingsley Madu has told owngoalnigeria.com that he missed out on a chance to join English Premiership side Tottenham Hotspurs in January.

Owngoalnigeria.com sort to hear from the full back about reports of a failed bid for him by Tottenham Hotspurs in January and the 20 year old told our correspondent that the reports were indeed true.

“It’s not a secret anymore so I can tell you there was a bid, disccussions were held but a deal wasn’t reached due to reasons beyond my own powers” He told owngoalnigeria.com.

We gathered Tottenham were willing to match AS Trencin asking price of £2m but they were fears that he won’t be able to get a work permit as he has only one cap for Nigeria and considering the fee it was a risk not worth taking.

Tottenham scout Ian Broomfield reportedly gave the go ahead for the deal after watching Madu but the club’s head of recruitment Paul Mitchell pulled the plug on the deal.

However they will continue to monitor his progress with a view of a renewed bid in the summer.
