It was a sad night for out of favour Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye as his team winning run came to an end after 17 games after a 1-1 draw with Platanias in the Greek Super League.

Ideye has been pivotal in Olympiakos winning run which dates back to the start of the season in Greece with 7 goals in 14 games since his move from West Bromwich Albion.

However, on Monday they were held to a 1-1 draw by Platanias, a team that has not won since mid-December in a game Ideye failed to add to his season’s tally despite playing for the entire duration of the game.

Ironically they were the last team to take a point off the league leaders who were chasing a record 29 match winning run set by Benfica from 1971-73 although they are still top of the table 16 points clear of second place AEK Athens.

For fans of Olympiakos failing to see their team win in the league will be an unfamiliar sight as they have not lost in the league since April last year and in the process a new club record for consecutive wins.

They won 17 games in a row bettering their own record of 16 consecutive victories set in the 2005/2006 season.
